ABOUT ABOUT

Join us at the Visitor Center or on Zoom as Dr. Glenn Williams presents “Lord Dunmore’s War: None Other than the True Interest of this Country.” Williams will examine the causes and conduct of the last war of America's colonial period. John Murray, Earl of Dunmore and governor of Virginia, commanded the colony's soldiers in the defense of the backcountry before conducting a successful offensive campaign that defeated the Shawnees and their allies. Set against the deepening constitutional crisis on the eve of the Revolutionary War, the governor returned to Williamsburg in triumph and popularity in December 1774, but within a few months Virginians would force him to flee his capital.

In-person attendees at the Visitor Center will hear the presentation followed by time for questions, refreshments, and touring the museum and historic house. Virtual attendees on Zoom will hear the presentation and may ask questions through the chat.

Glenn F. Williams is a retired Army officer who entered public history as a second career.
